Worship and Sermons - Worship Schedule

Worship is a vibrant part of who we are at Trinity, and who we are called to be. We consider worship to be a lifestyle, and much more than just praising our God. It means giving worth to our God with every action, every word, every thought. And though that sounds impossible, the effort is worth it and the journey is enriched by it!

March 7, 2010 [Purple]                                                     Third Sunday in Lent

Exodus 3:1-15                                                                                                 You. Yes, You.

Psalm 63:1-8 (UMH 788)

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

Luke 13:1-9

Moses heard the call from the Burning Bush. Jesus heard the voice from the descending dove. Paul was knocked off his horse and blinded. What’s it going to take to get your attention?

March 14, 2010                                                                  Fourth Sunday in Lent

Joshua 5:9-12

Psalm 32

2 Corinthians 5:16-21

Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32                                                                           Pigpens and Peapods

The Prodigal Son not only teaches us a lesson, he shows us a glimpse of our inmost being. The hunger of the body and the lust of the flesh provide us with a compass that points directly away from God.

March 21, 2010 [Purple]                                                     Fifth Sunday in Lent

Isaiah 43:16-21                                                                                                 A New Thing

Psalm 126 (UMH 847)

Philippians 3:4b-14

John 12:1-8

Different is hard. Change is unsettling. But we serve a God who challenges us to change the world. Don’t you think that things will be a bit different? Coping with letting go becomes a key Christian skill!

March 28, 2010                                                    Palm Sunday [Red or Purple]

Isaiah 50:4-9a

Psalm 118:1-2, 19-29 (UMH 839)

Philippians 2:5-11

Luke 19:28-40                                                                                                Singing Stones

Celebrating Christ as king is fun when the party is on and the palms are waving. But the same ones who said “Hosanna!” would soon cry out, “Crucify!” We must celebrate the coming of the Lord with the knowledge that his expectations might be hard—perhaps even harder than we are willing to bear.

April 2, 2010 [No Color]                                                 Tenebrae/Good Friday

John 18:1–19:42

This service marks the traditional ceremony of lessons, laments, and hymns. With each reading, the shadows gather until the crucifixion narrative brings total darkness. The sanctuary is stripped of ornamentation and the congregation departs in silence to meditate on the cost of victory over sin through the death of God’s own son.

April 4, 2010 [White]                                                                       Easter Sunday

Acts 10:34-43

Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24 (UMH 839)

1 Corinthians 15:19-26

John 20:1-18                                                                                                   He’s Not Dead

(and you don’t have to be either)

The Resurrection is about the defeat of Death. Our lives are filled with moments of “no-life.” Christ’s resurrection means that we can start living life now rather than waiting for pie-in-the-sky. It means that those moments of “no-life” can now be filled with “God-life!”

April 11, 2010 [White]

Second Sunday of Easter

Acts 5:27-32

Psalm 150 (UMH 862)

Revelation 1:4-8

John 20:19-31

 Sermon: Don't Miss the Spirit

Thomas' moment of doubt almost overshadows the incredible responsibility Jesus left to the disciples. We are called to forgive!

April 18, 2010 [White]

Third Sunday of Easter

Acts 9:1-6, 7-20

Psalm 30 (UMH 762)

Revelation 5:11-14

John 21:1-19

 Sermon: Blindsided

Saul's persecution of Christ was perfectly justifiable in his mind. What are the places in your life when you need to be knocked off your, um, horse?

April 25, 2010 [White]

Fourth Sunday of Easter

Acts 9:36-43

Psalm 23 (UMH 754 or 137)

Revelation 7:9-17

John 10:22-30

 Sermon: Stockholm Syndrome

Hostages sometimes find themselves identifying with their captors. When that's the case, they become more of a liability to their rescuers. Jesus can protect us from the Destroyer and the Theif, but only if we want the help!
